The Mary McLeod Bethune Memorial is a statue dedicated to Mary McLeod Bethune, an extraordinary educator, civil rights leader, and government official who founded the National Council of Negro Women and Bethune-Cookman College.
Built in 1974 by sculptor Robert Berks, the monument is located in Washington DC, at Lincoln Park (East Capitol Street & 12th Street SE). It was the first monument raised in DC to an African-American leader and the first monument dedicated to a woman.
