The Jefferson Memorial is dedicated to America's third president, Thomas Jefferson. The memorial sits on the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park and has a direct line of sight to the White House. In fact, the Jefferson Memorial is one of the first things every sitting president sees when he gets up in the morning (assuming he's looking out the window).
The Smithsonian Metro Station (Orange and Blue Lines) is the closest metro station to the Jefferson Memorial. The Smithsonian Station has two exits. When visiting the memorial, exit the station through the Mall Exit (12th Street & Independence Avenue). For directions, see the map below.
