Bus Connections
The New Carrollton station is a major transit center. The station plays an important role in the suburban Maryland transportation network by facilitating many transfers. Twenty-four bus routes serve the station. There are four bus bays on the west side of the station and six bus bays on the east side. For more information, see the map below.

Bike Racks at New Carrollton Station
There are 18 bike racks and 16 lockers located near both entrances of the station. Bicycle racks are available for free on a first-come, first-use basis. Bicycle lockers are available for rent. So you can ride your bicycle to the metro station, leave it there, and take Metro or Metrobus.
Bicycle lockers provide secure parking by improving protection from theft, vandalism, and weather. Each locker is designed to hold one bicycle and bicycle gear. When you rent a locker, you are given a key to open your assigned locker. The space inside is about 1.2m (4 feet) high x 1.9m (6 feet, 5 inches) deep x 0.9m (3 feet) wide at the door and narrows toward the back of the locker. Most standard bicycles will fit inside. However, longer bicycles such as tandem bikes or some recumbent bikes will not fit into the lockers.
To rent a locker, send an email to bikelocker@wmata.com providing your name, address, contact phone number, email address, and station of interest. All locker rentals cost $200 per year, and are subject to availability.
Note: Do not lock your bicycle to railings, sign posts, benches, and other unauthorized areas around the station. Such bicycles are subject to removal without notification.
Metro Parking at New Carrollton Station
New Carrollton has two sides: Westside and Eastside. The Eastside has 3 surface parking lots, and a Metro parking garage accessed from Garden City Drive, with connections from US-50, Capital Beltway (I-495/I-95), and Pennsy Drive. The Westside has 2 surface parking lots accessed from Ellin Road, which connects with Harkins Road and Annapolis Road.
All Day Parking: There are 3,519 parking spots in a garage and five surface lots. Cost/day is between $4.50 / *$8.25. Parking fees are collected upon exit from 10:30 a.m. to Metro closing hours. Parking fees can be paid using SmarTrip® and credit cards.
*Note: The lower cost/day requires a valid metro trip using a SmarTrip card originating from a metro station other than the one where you parked. To receive this lower rate, you must pay for your parking with the same SmarTrip card used to enter/exit Metro, and must exit the parking lot within two hours of exiting Metro.
Short-term Metered Parking: There are 97 parking spots. Parking is available from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 2 a.m. The rate is $1.00 per 60 mins. Meters at short-term parking spaces accept only quarters and $1 coins.
Additional spaces and costs: The Eastside lot has 129 short-term metered spaces. The Westside lot has 20 short-term metered spaces. There are 20 spaces metered for a maximum of 12-hours @ $1.00 per 60 mins.
Prince George's County also operates a second garage with 400 spaces allocated for monthly passes, but the entire garage is available for Metro, MARC, and Amtrak patrons paying a daily rate.
Reserved Parking: There is reserved parking at West of Garden City Drive, north of John Hanson Highway, east of Harkins Road, south of Ellin Road. The reserved rate is $65.
FREE Parking: Parking is free at Metro-operated lots and garages on weekends and federal holidays. Most weekends, it is easy to find a space at Metro parking lots.

New Carrollton Station
The New Carrollton Station is the furthest northern station into Maryland on the Orange line. The station began service on November 20, 1978. New Carrollton has two sides: Westside and Eastside. A pedestrian tunnel connects the two sides of the station, with access from the tunnel to the Metro mezzanine, Amtrak ticketing and waiting area, and Amtrak/MARC platform.
Unlike other metro stations, New Carrollton also has connections to Amtrak, MARC commuter trains, Greyhound, and MTA commuter buses. An Amtrak station is co-located with the Metro mezzanine entrance, with its own waiting and ticketing are. Fourty-three Amtrak and 52 MARC commuter trains serve the station each weekday. The Amtrak platform is located immediately west of the Metro platform. Greyhound also serves this station, with a small kiosk on the east side and at least 14 buses per day using bus bay A in front of the station entrance.
The New Carrollton Station is a busy station with over 10,000 Metro boardings and 3500 bus boardings on a typical weekday.The station has parking lots and parking garages on both sides of the station. The station is very popular with suburban commuters. The morning is the busiest time of the day with about 8,430 passengers, or roughly 40 percent of all trips. As a result, parking lots fill up early in the morning on weekdays. Get to the station before 7:30 a.m. if you plan to park here. On weekends, there are plenty of parking spaces.

Metro is the subway system connecting Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland. The system is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA).
